Help with documents

After registration, Ukrainians with temporary protection status must obtain and keep several important documents. These documents give Ukrainians who fled the war in Ukraine the legal right to stay in Luxembourg. They also give them the right to work in Luxembourg, the right to travel within the EU, and the right to return to Ukraine for a short period of time with the possibility of returning to Luxembourg.

1. Document of registration in the commune

The first document that every Ukrainian who arrives in Luxembourg is a document of registration in the commune.

Persons arriving from Ukraine must report to the commune administration at their place of residence in Luxembourg to file a declaration of arrival, which can be done at the latest after obtaining temporary protection status.

Keep the original. You may need a copy when applying for a job, for children’s school or other public services.

2. Metricule

A document on a blue paper with a photo, which every Ukrainian, including children, must receive after registering with the Ministry of Immigration.
Be sure to keep the original. This document contains your personal ID number. This is your “passport” in Luxembourg. It is required to be presented in hospitals, public institutions, for employment, a copy is needed to the commune and for the child to school. For crossing borders and returning to Luxembourg.

3. Medical Attestation Document (Attestation)

It is a mandatory document without which it is impossible to find a job or legally stay in Luxembourg.

Every person arriving in Luxembourg undergoes a mandatory medical examination, including every child. The examination includes a blood test and a fluoroscopy for adults. For children – a mantle (or blood sample).

Keep the original, a copy may be required for school or employment.

4. Document on passing all institutions

After the visit to the Ministry of Immigration, it is recommended to keep the document with the stamps of all institutions in one place.

This document is in two languages (Ukrainian on the one hand and English on the other). It contains the stamps of each institution where you were registered when you received temporary protection. These include: the stamp of the Immigration Department, the Police, the Social Service – ONA, the National Reception Office, the Department of Health, the Ministry of National Education of Children and Youth.

It is recommended to keep the original.
