A special award by LUkraine for the people of Luxembourg

“The Light Will Defeat Darkness”

The “The Light Will Defeat Darkness” is a special award by LUkraine for the people of Luxembourg who have contributed to Ukraine’s victory in its resistance against Russia. This award is a manifestation of the deep respect and boundless gratitude of Ukrainians to Luxembourgers, as well as a symbol of the tight partnership and unity for the defense of the common European future.

About the Award

Description of the Award

The prize is crafted from a shell casing used during the defense of Ukrainian lands by its heroes, symbolizing the indestructibility of the power of the spirit and the strength of the alliance for victory. On the front side of the medal is a depiction of a laurel wreath held by the Golden Lady of the Monument of Glory, placing it on the head of the nation.

This perpetuates the glory of the thousands of Luxembourgers who voluntarily joined the Allied forces to defend their homeland during the First World War. Luxembourg knows very well what fighting for independence and national identity means, and this is what unites us. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Luxembourg has become a reliable ally of Ukraine, symbolized by the wreath on the medal. Every leaf depicted on the back of each medal, forming the wreath, represents every Luxembourg citizen who contributes to the victory of good over evil and has embarked on the path of righteousness.

In the darkest times, the brightest people are visible, and the name of the award, “The Light Will Defeat Darkness,”  is a testament to that.

History and Purpose

Since the beginning of the aggressive invasion by Russia, Luxembourg has been an unwavering supporter and a reliable ally of Ukraine. This award represents the power of partnership, commitment to peace, values, and democracy Ukraine defends together.

Founded in 2024, before the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion by Russia, this award goes to those people of Luxembourg who have made a significant contribution to Ukraine’s victory in its resistance.
