Women make up a growing share of Ukraine’s armed forces. For years many of them have served in uniforms cut for men — the wrong shape, the wrong fit, and in the field a real problem.
On 29 July our Committee voted unanimously to fund 70 complete uniform sets for the women of the 93rd Brigade. The sets are made in Ukraine by a Ukrainian manufacturer, and were specified for the temperature swings the brigade actually works in rather than for a catalogue. The contract was signed in early August.
This continues Warm Her Courage, the LUkraine programme that equips Ukrainian servicewomen with uniforms and boots designed for them. Since it began the programme has equipped more than 600 women across several units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a summer batch of 100 sets and boots was delivered earlier this year.
July also brought vacuum stretchers for our medical evacuation crews — equipment that lets a team move a casualty with a suspected spinal injury without making the injury worse. Our two mobile teams evacuate wounded people from the Kharkiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions to hospitals in Dnipro.
