«Вартові Мрій: Від коріння до зірок» — Guardians of Dreams: from roots to stars. That was the title our Ukrainian school Mriya gave to this year’s SuperU summer camp, and it is a fair summary of what the school is trying to do: study where these children come from, so that they can build a future in the wider European family with some confidence about who they are.
The camp ran from 20 to 31 July at the Scouts’ house in Leudelange, every day from 09:00 to 16:00 except Sundays. The method was deliberately low-tech: quests and games, creative work, lessons built as play. Two weeks away from screens, with other children who understand the same jokes and the same silences.
Places were limited and the fee was €250 for the fortnight, snacks included. For a family that arrived in Luxembourg with nothing, that is still a lot of money — which is why we keep a fund for the children whose parents cannot cover it.
