SUMMARY:‘Superpower’\, a Special Screening of Sean Penn's Documentary
DESCRIPTION:Date: February\, 23\, 2024\nTime: 19:00\nPlace: Ciné Utopia (16 Av. de la Faiencerie\, 1510 Limpertsberg Luxembourg)\nFree admission\, registration via the link \n\nThe special screening and discussion to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The event is co-organized with the CinEast festival with the support of the European Commission Representation in Luxembourg. \n\nSYNOPSIS:\nWhen directors Sean Penn and Aaron Kaufman began filming Superpower in early 2021\, a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin was a looming\, if seemingly distant\, threat. Penn and Kaufman traveled to Ukraine to learn more about Volodymyr Zelensky\, the actor\, and comedian who played an unlikely presidential candidate on television before becoming the actual President of Ukraine\, and who at that point was known primarily to Americans for rebuffing attempts at coercion in the 2019 Trump-Ukraine scandal that resulted in the impeachment and subsequent acquittal of President Donald Trump.\nBut on February 24\, 2022\, while Penn and Kaufman were filming in Kyiv\, Putin’s invasion took the world by storm. As explosions rocked the city\, they became inadvertent front-row witnesses to this historic “David and Goliath” struggle. Penn conducted the first of multiple interviews with Zelensky on the night of the invasion and\, deeply affected by what he witnessed in Kyiv and during the film team’s journey to the border\, became an unofficial ambassador for Ukraine.\nA unique document about the beginning of the war and the Ukrainian President raises many questions that are still relevant two years later.\nCo-organizer: \n \nPartner:

SUMMARY:CinEast Opening concert: YAGODY (UA) & DJ party
DESCRIPTION:Enchanting folk music band from the Ukrainian Carpathians opens this year’s CinEast festival as part of our “Focus on Ukraine”! \n‘A song fits every moment in a person’s life’\, says Zoryana Dybovska\, who founded Yagody in 2016 with three other students from the theatre faculty in Lviv\, western Ukraine. The four travelled through all the oblasts of Ukraine to explore the musical traditions of local people. Amazed by the richness and charm of the vast collection of songs about life\, they decided to give some of them new\, more modern clothes and… the unique sound of Yagody was born.\nWhen the band was announced at their first gig\, the then nameless band was presented spontaneously as ‘ЯгОди’\, meaning ‘berries’\, and the name stuck. Since then\, the band comprising Zoryana Dybovska (vocals\, singing bowls)\, Sofia Leshishak (vocals\, djembe)\, Valeria Mocharska-Lyulchyk (vocals\, percussion) and Tatiana Voitov (vocals\, bayan) as well as guest musicians on drums\, guitar\, accordion\, or the drymba\, a Jewish harp from the Carpathians\, have performed on many stages in Ukraine and around Europe. Since Yagody is active also in the world of theatre\, its musical stage shows are planned according to dramaturgical principles – their gig is like a performance in one act\, like a ritual. Yagody’s repertoire consists of poetic songs from every corner of Ukraine as well as some surrounding regions\, including the Balkans. They invite you to their captivating\, energising and diverse world of melodies\, rhythms and themes and a truly hypnotic fusion of voices\, echoing the songs of our ancestors brought by the winds blowing through the fields.\nBut that’s not all. After the gig\, the night continues with a DJ party that will keep you dancing until 3 am.\n\nDuring the whole event\, a selection of authentic Ukrainian dishes will be available on the first floor of the venue\, to fuel up your energy levels.\nJoin us on this immersive journey into Ukrainian music & traditions\, dance\, and culinary experiences! \nProgramme of the evening:\n19.30 Doors & food \n21.00 Yagody live \n23.00 DJ party \nTickets:\nhttps://bit.ly/Yagody_concert_tickets\n19/22 EUR (presale/doors) – 5 EUR from each ticket goes to the CinEast4Ukraine charity project.\nMain partner: LUkraine\nIn collaboration with: Melusina\nWebsite: http://tomato-production.com/gruppi-musicali/yagody/\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yagody.officialpage\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yagody_official/\nVideo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfhXpJHF5Ew\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVXMku0l7js

SUMMARY:Protest near the cinema Utopia against Cheburashka
DESCRIPTION:On December 21\, Ukrainians peacefully protested near the cinema Utopia against broadcasting there a russian movie Cheburashka.According to open resources\, all 5 companies that are mentioned as Cheburashka producers are federal or tightly cooperate with the russian government. Moreover\, a significant part of Cheburashka’s leading cast supports russia in the war and russian aggression against Ukraine since 2014.\nOne of the most common approaches of russian propaganda is covering their blooding crimes with innocent movies\, culture\, sport\, literature\, music\, etc. Claiming it to be out of politics\, they distract the entire world’s attention from committing genocide and crimes against humanity in Ukraine. They cynically produce and distribute family comedies to foreigners while killing Ukrainian kids and their parents.

SUMMARY:"A Mother’s Heart: Children Keep All Our Tears". Documentary and Musical Performance
DESCRIPTION:UA Days in Esch-sur-Alzette welcomes you to attend the performance of one of the most renowned Ukrainian theaters\, “Dakh”.\n“A Mother’s Heart: Children Keep All Our Tears” is a performance about the tragedy of mothers whose children are on the front line. The storyline of the performance revolves around a woman’s memories of love\, birth\, childhood\, and the anticipation of what may not happen because of the War. The story combines three time dimensions: past\, present\, and the possible happy future.‌ \nHowever\, there is another side of reality and a key question: “What if he never comes back?”. Realizing the cyclical nature of events and life\, the woman is almost ready to accept her reality but allows herself to live in a moment of hope for the last time and shares it with the audience. The performance immerses us in the state of a person living in a world of uncertainty and helplessness\, but who can also find strength in the shared experience of grief.\nThe performance is based on personal texts written by Ukrainian mothers to their sons during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine\, including letters from women in a bomb shelter in Mariupol and a woman from Lviv whose two sons died on the front line. These documentary texts are performed by Tetiana Troitska and supplemented with vocal parts by Mariana Golovko and sound collages of texts by Vlad Troitskyi and Thomas Flocken. Vlad Troitskyi’s production is a moving work of art consisting of acting\, singing\, animation\, video\, and sound compositions. \nThe performance is in Ukrainian with English subtitles. \nAll proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to LUkraine projects.\nhttps://theatre.esch.lu/event/a-mothers-heart-2/

SUMMARY:Maid in Law (Viddana)
DESCRIPTION:Maid-in-Law (Viddana) (2020) is a Ukrainian full-length film based on the novel “Felix Austria” by the Ukrainian writer Sofia Andruhovych\, which became a “BBC Book of The Year – 2014”. In a moment of desperation\, the doctor decides to raise them together. 25 years have passed. The girls have grown up and are just as inseparable\, although Adele is now married. Stefania\, on the other hand\, manages the household\, quenching her passion for cooking. But they still do not understand who they are to each other: sisters and friends\, or maid and mistress.
