SUMMARY:Old Movies and Jazz: Man with a Movie Camera
DESCRIPTION:Man with a Movie Camera” (1929) is a masterpiece of world’s documentaries and silent movies\, filmed by Dziga Vertov in Ukraine. What makes the experience even more special is the accompaniment of jazz quarter with soundtrack composed by Vitaliy Tkachuk explicitly for this movie and performed by Vitaliy himself and Luxembourgish musicians. \n  \n\n\nPROGRAM\n\n\n\n\n\n“Man with a Movie Camera” (Ukrainian: Людина з кіноапаратом) is an experimental 1929 Soviet silent documentary film\, directed by Dziga Vertov on request of the Ukrainian Photo Cinema State Studio. \nIt presents Soviet urban life during the late 1920s. It has no actors. From dawn to dusk Soviet citizens are shown at work and at play and interacting with the machinery of modern life. To the extent that it can be said to have “characters”\, they are the cameramen of the title\, the film editor\, and the modern Soviet Union they discover and present in the film. \n“Man with a Movie Camera” is famous for the range of experimental cinematic techniques Vertov invented\, employed or developed while filming in Ukraine. \nIn the British Film Institute’s 2012 Sight & Sound poll\, film critics voted it as the best documentary of all time. The National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Centre placed it in 2021 at number three of their list of the 100 best films in the history of Ukrainian cinema. \nThe soundtrack to a movie was composed by Vitaliy Tkachuk in 2010 for the 1st International Movie Festival “Silent Nights’ in Odesa\, Ukraine. \nIt was later successfully performed several times\, including on MAMI international movie festival in Mumbai (India) in 2016. \nOne of the locations used in the film was the city of Odesa and its surroundings. This led the composer to use some melodies and motives that make allusion to Odesa\, like music of Leonid Utesov (famous jazz composer born in Odesa) and song “My Odesa” by Evgeni Krichmar\, which opens the soundtrack. \nThe music of this soundtrack is rooted in jazz and uses a lot of improvisation and spontaneous interaction between musicians of the quartet to illustrate all the variety of moods and scenes\, which are many in the film. \nMusicians: \nVitaliy Tkachuk\, guitar \nGilles Wagner\, drums/ percussion \nLaurent Payfert\, contrebasse \nAlessandro Biasi\, saxophone \n\n\n\n  \nBuy a ticket

SUMMARY:Defend Your Future Now! March to mark 4 years of full-scale invasion
DESCRIPTION:DEFEND YOUR FUTURE NOW!\nOn the 4th anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine\, we call on everyone who believes in freedom\, democracy\, and human dignity to stand with us and join the march and rally organised by LUkraine in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg.\nDate: February 21\, 2026Time: 14:00 (13:45 – Gathering in front of Gare Centrale\, Luxembourg)\nFor four years\, Ukraine has been resisting a brutal war that continues to claim lives\, destroy cities\, and shatter families. This war is not only about Ukraine — it is about the future of Europe and the values we share. Silence and indifference allow violence to continue.\nBy coming together in Luxembourg\, we send a clear message: we remember\, we care\, and we will not look away. It is vital that the people of Luxembourg and the international community continue to see and understand the devastating consequences of Russian aggression — and stand in solidarity with Ukraine.\nYour presence matters. Each voice matters. Together\, we defend the future.

SUMMARY:Press conference: Launch of the Advocacy Coalition – Defending Our Future Now
DESCRIPTION:LUkraine asbl\, together with an alliance of nine partner Embassies resident in Luxembourg — the Embassies of Belgium\, the Czech Republic\, France\, Germany\, Ireland\, the Netherlands\, Poland\, Romania\, and the United Kingdom — and with the support of the European Commission in Luxembourg and the Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium and Luxembourg\, officially announces the launch of the Advocacy Coalition – Defending Our Future Now. \nThis year-long initiative is not charity — it is a strategic investment in European security. \nThroughout 2026\, the Coalition will host a series of monthly events addressing key themes such as countering disinformation and hybrid threats\, strengthening resilience\, supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction\, and amplifying the role of Ukrainian communities in Europe. \nAs part of the initiative\, the Embassy of the Czech Republic will co-host the year-long exhibition “How to Destroy a Country.” The exhibition reveals the systematic tactics used to undermine sovereignty — from child abduction and identity erasure to disinformation and institutional manipulation. It serves as both a warning and a call to action. \nAt the heart of the project is also the Advocacy Platform — a digital space amplifying authentic voices and testimonies that explain why supporting Ukraine matters. \nThis is a coordinated effort to safeguard democratic values in Europe. \nWe invite institutions\, media representatives\, community leaders\, and citizens to engage with the initiative\, participate in its events\, and contribute to strengthening peace\, accountability\, and resilience across Europe. \n🛡️ Defend Our Future Now.

SUMMARY:Advocacy Coalition Launch Event: The Abduction of Ukrainian Children
DESCRIPTION:23 March marked the launch of our new advocacy project — Advocacy Coalition: Defending Our Future Now.\n\nWe held our first public event — a debate dedicated to one of the most devastating consequences of Russia’s war: the abduction of Ukrainian children.\n\n\n\nThe discussion brought together representatives of European institutions\, civil society\, and Ukrainian voices to raise awareness and call for action.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event opened with the official greetings from:\n\n\n\nH.E. Barbara Karpetová\, Ambassador of the Czech Republic\nInna Yaremenko\, Vice President of LUkraine and Ombudsperson for Ukrainians in Luxembourg\n\n\n\n\n\nA powerful video address by Dmytro Lubinets\, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights\, Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine set the tone by outlining the scale and systematic nature of child deportations.\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of the most emotional moments was the testimony of Kseniia-Anastasiia (19 y.o) — a young Ukrainian who was abducted by Russia. Her story gave a human face to this crime and deeply resonated with the audience.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe keynote speech by Oleksandra Matviichuk\, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights defender\, highlighted the legal and humanitarian dimensions of these crimes and the urgent need for international response.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event continued with a high-level panel discussion featuring:\n\n\n\nClaude Wiseler\, President of Chambre des Députés Grand-Duché de Luxembourg\nMarc ANGEL\, Member of European Parliament\nAnne Calteux\, Head of Commission européenne au Luxembourg\n\n\n\nThis first event set a strong foundation for our Advocacy Coalition — bringing the issue of abducted Ukrainian children to the center of European attention.\n\n\n\n Follow our activities to stay updated — this project will continue throughout the year with a series of events and initiatives: https://advocacy.lukraine.org\n\n\n\n\n\n We also invite you to visit the “Empty Beds” exhibition at the European Parliament\, open until April 17.

SUMMARY:Installation “Empty Beds”
DESCRIPTION:“Empty Beds” is an immersive installation that brings visitors closer to the human reality of the war in Ukraine.Created as a hyper-realistic reconstruction of a deported Ukrainian child’s bedroom\, the installation transforms statistics into a personal experience. More than twenty thousand Ukrainian children have been illegally taken from their homes\, and behind every number is a family waiting\, a room left untouched\, and a future interrupted. \nThe installation recreates a child’s room at a 1:1 scale\, allowing visitors to step into a space filled with silence\, memory\, and absence. Through everyday objects\, photographs\, and personal details\, the exhibition invites viewers to understand what it means to lose home\, childhood\, and the right to grow up in one’s own country. “Empty Beds” was created by the charitable organisation Bird of Light Ukraine to raise international awareness about the deportation of Ukrainian children and to turn a global statistic into a physical reality that cannot be ignored. \nThe installation is presented within the framework of Advocacy Coalition — Defending Our Future Now\, an international project uniting embassies\, institutions\, and civil society to strengthen solidarity with Ukraine and to defend shared democratic values. Through exhibitions\, discussions\, and public events\, the project seeks to make the human dimension of the war visible\, personal\, and impossible to overlook. \nThe deportation of Ukrainian children is not only a humanitarian tragedy. It is an attempt to destroy identity\, memory\, and the future of a nation. By entering the space of this room\, visitors are invited not only to observe\, but to reflect\, to feel\, and to act. Awareness leads to responsibility. Responsibility leads to action. \nThe installation was created by Bird of Light Ukraine and presented as part of the Advocacy Coalition project\, in cooperation with diplomatic and institutional partners.

SUMMARY:Photo Exhibition “Lost Childhood”
DESCRIPTION:“Lost Childhood” is a documentary photo exhibition dedicated to the children of Ukraine whose childhood has been taken away by war\, deportation\, and forced displacement. The exhibition is currently presented on the fence of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Luxembourg\, as part of the public exhibition programme of the Advocacy Coalition — Defending Our Future Now initiative. \nThe exhibition features photographs inspired by the work of Ukrainian photographer Roman Pashkovskyi\, showing the eyes of children who survived occupation\, deportation\, and captivity. Their gaze reflects experiences far beyond their years. What should have been a time of play\, safety\, and growth was replaced by loss\, fear\, and separation. The images remind us that behind every statistic there is a real child\, a real family\, and a life changed forever.   \nThis exhibition is part of the international effort to raise awareness about the illegal deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children by the Russian Federation\, a crime documented by Ukrainian authorities and international organisations. Thousands of children have been taken from their homes\, placed in institutions\, or subjected to ideological pressure intended to erase their identity. The loss of childhood is not only a personal tragedy\, but also an attack on the future of a nation.   \n“Lost Childhood” was created within the framework of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative\, launched to support the return of deported and forcibly displaced Ukrainian children and to inform the international community about this ongoing crime. The exhibition transforms facts and numbers into human stories\, making the consequences of the war visible in the most personal way.   \nThe exhibition was officially opened on March 24 in Luxembourg and will remain on display for approximately two months\, after which the panels will be replaced by the next chapter of the year-long outdoor exhibition How to Destroy a Country\, presented by the Advocacy Coalition. Each chapter reveals a different aspect of the war against Ukraine and its impact on people\, identity\, and democratic values. \nBy bringing these stories into public space\, the exhibition invites visitors not only to look\, but to understand\, to remember\, and to take responsibility. Every lost childhood is a warning. Every story is a call to action.
